Translated from Dutch. Originally published under the title Tralievader in 1991.
A World War II concentration camp survivor's story, recounted by his eight-year-old daughter. At first the father tries to present the experience in terms suitable for children, then finding that he is getting nowhere he abandons euphemisms and becomes brutally frank. The novel's interest is in the girl's reaction, as well as that of two other children to such subjects as gasings, beatings and murder.
